Nowshera Seniors advanced to next round after defeating Kohat Seniors by six wickets in the 10th National Veterans Cricket Cup-2008 being played here at Gymkhana Cricket ground on Monday.
Kohat Seniors skipper Arshad Nazir won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up 147 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 30 overs.
For Kohat Seniors apart from middle order Dr. Abdul Wasy and Umar Farooq, the other batsmen failed to click in front of excellent bowling by Nowshera bowlers.
Dr. Abdul Wasey made 27 runs off 37 balls with two boundaries and a six, Umar Farooq (21) off 34 balls with one boundary and a six, Noor Aslam (17) off 18 balls with two boundaries, Arshid Nazir (10) and Muhammad Khan not out 7 were the key runs takers.
For Nowshera Seniors right-arm medium fast bowler Sajjad Akhtar took three wickets for 16 runs only in his six overs spell, Gohar Ali took two for 37 runs in his six overs spell, Khir Wali got two for 21 runs in his four overs spell and Tahseenullah and Khan Wali got one wicket each.
In reply, Nowshera Seniors reached to the winning target for the loss of four wickets after playing 23.2 overs spell. Haroon struck 45 runs off 31 runs with eight cracking boundaries; Sajjad Akhtar hammered 54 runs off 52 balls with six boundaries. Tehseenullah (12) and Khir Wali (12) were the other leading runs takers.
For Kohat Seniors Arshad nazir, Shoukat Mehmood, Muhammad Shabir and Hamid Saleem took one wicket each. Thus Nowshera Senior won the match by six wickets.
Sohail Zaman and Jamshed Iqbal supervised the match while Awas Khan Khalil acted as scorer.
